Crew roles we can provide on Live AV Projects
Director
The role of director on a live production is often one closely tied to the expectations and experience of the client, producer and technical director. In general the director is the key leader for overall vision of the production consulting, advising and directing the look, feel and vibe of the event. This person may also act as the TD on smaller productions.
TD - Technical Director
The technical director orchestrates all technical aspects of the live show. They are involved early in the pre-production process assuring that the equipment and systems being sourced are efficient, correct and suitable for the creative vision of the show. This person may act as a show caller on site during event day(s).
A1 - Audio Engineer
Our A1s are talented engineers that are responsible for designing, setting up, and operating the sound system for a live production. This includes planning equipment setup and mixing / EQ work during tech check and while the show is unfolding. On smaller shows where they are working solo theyalso may be tasked with roles like mic placement, cable routing, and troubleshooting.
A2 - 2nd Audio Engineer
An A2 is not a requirement for each production but for larger shows and more complex audio situations, they are valuable members of the team to ensure a flawless show. The A2s assist the head audio engineer in setting up and operating audio equipment.
LD - Lighting Designer
Lighting designers are creative individuals who establish the overall lighting concept for the event. This can have an important impact on the visual appeal of both the in person experience as well as any video or photo media captured at the event.
L1 / L2 - Lighting Engineers
Lighting engineers (1st and 2nd) work under the direction of the LD or directly with the director on a smaller show. They are integral to setup, operation, and maintenance of lighting equipment.
Camera Operator - “Cam Op”
Camera operators are dedicated to framing, expopsure and composition of an individual camera on a live set. For instance, this can either be someone tracking primary keynote speakers or musicians on a longer lens using tripod support or in a roaming role where a shoulder rig or gimbal are used. Roaming cameras can be paired with remote video transmitters like a Teradek to integrate dynamic shots into the live program.
